If There’s More Than 10 Students in Your Ground School… Run.

10 students Ground School

If you walk into a ground school and see more than 10 students packed into a classroom, it might look impressive — but don’t be fooled. In flight training, quality matters far more than quantity. When group sizes grow too large, the student is the one who pays the price — in both money and time.

“In aviation training, if you’re just a number in a crowded room, you’re not being trained — you’re being processed.”

Large class sizes may work in a university auditorium, but not in aviation where understanding each concept deeply could be the difference between passing the exam or not… between safe flying and unsafe habits. When there are too many students, instructors can’t give personalized attention, questions go unanswered, and students fall behind quietly.

Sadly, many “schools” know this — and still do it. Why? Because packing in 20 or 30 students at a time boosts profits. They’ll advertise low prices to get you in the door, then waste your time with generic lectures, minimal guidance, and cookie-cutter instruction.

At The Pilot Studio, we cap our ground school at 6 to 10 students max — because we believe in real learning, not filling seats. When classes are small, students receive tailored instruction, one-on-one attention, and a safe space to ask questions, clarify doubts, and actually understand the material.

We’ve seen it too often: students come to us after paying thousands elsewhere, only to realize they were rushed, overlooked, or unprepared. That’s why we say it clearly — if there are more than 10 students in your ground school, run.

Before enrolling, ask the right questions:

  • How many students are in each class?
  • Will I have access to individual help?
  • Do I have the option to review or retake material if needed?

And do your homework. Search online for school reviews, FAA enforcement actions, or news reports. If a school has a pattern of overselling and underdelivering, it will eventually show.
